Fire Rat: Earth Season: 4a

21 Aug ~~ 24 Aug

One step too far. The conqueror knows not his own weakness and overreaches himself. Eruptions. Storms. Coups d'état. Revolts. Crisis. An assault on the Citadel. Power is claimed and used by those who know not their own strength. Things taken by suddenness and not by stealth. The coming of something new. A time for bold action.

The Fulfilment:

World: Scientists announce discovery of a new order of life on Earth: Archeons. They live only around lava vents in the deep oceans. Their genetics are wholly unique and not like plants, animals, bacteria or viruses. "The coming of something new." I love it when humanity moves in synch with the cosmos! Compare this with entry 3a --- the discovery of evidence of life on Mars ... :-)

Ireland: Navy frigate in stand off with two dozen Japanese tuna trawlers along the Atlantic coast. One Japanese trawler runs aground in Galway Bay and has to be rescued and two others are seized and arrested outright. "One step too far." Overreaching.

Russia: Chechnya: Security chief Lebed signs a full truce with Chechen rebels, even amidst public criticism from Yeltsin about going too far --- his exact words. :-) "One step too far."

Europa: Geneva: Diplomats concede defeat in negotiations on the nuclear test ban treaty as India vetoes it and prevents unanimity. Now it will be sent straight to the floor of the UN General Assembly. "One step too far. Crisis. Power is claimed and used by those who know not their own strength."

Germany: Court sentences American neo-nazi to four years in prison for spreading propaganda.

Belgium: Nation observes a minute of silence today during the funerals for the two little girls murdered by Dutroux's gang of pedophiles.

China: Govt insists it is ready to talk reunification with Taiwan, but that Taiwan spoils the atmosphere through its constant push for diplomatic recognition.

Taiwan: Govt launches yet another bid for a seat in the UN, despite the certainty of a Chinese veto. "An assault on the Citadel. A time for bold action."

Serbia: Treaty of mutual recognition signed today with Croatia. This is part of the coming Revolution. "Some unresolved situation in the world or some condition that has been static or some institution that has been moribund will suddenly give way, become fluid and be transformed. Something that has been intransigent for years will suddenly budge." Italy: Palermo: Police and prosecutors say Mafia boss Giovanni Brusca has started to give evidence against his fellow bosses. If true, this is a major breakthrough. "A time for bold action."

Ireland: Five Japanese crewmen killed by suffocation in their engine room. Irish frigate intervenes to help. "One step too far"??

France: Paris: Colonial immigrants (mostly from Mali) holed up in a church and on a hunger strike for 50 days cleared out today by riot police and arrested for imminent deportation. Over 1000 protesters are beaten back by the police. "An assault on the Citadel. Things taken by suddenness and not by stealth. A time for bold action."

Russia: Chechnya: Truce begins today with joint patrols of Grozny by Russians and Chechens. This too is part of the Revolution: "Some unresolved situation in the world or some condition that has been static or some institution that has been moribund will suddenly give way, become fluid and be transformed. Something that has been intransigent for years will suddenly budge."

UK: Tabloids speculate the Queen and Royal Family are contemplating leaving Buckingham Palace and designating another castle as home.

Israel: Govt has been seizing ID cards of Arabs in Old Jerusalem if they have alternate ID (like a foreign passport). This has the effect of preventing their return home once they once leave. "An assault on the Citadel"??

India: Mother Theresa of Calcutta has come down with malaria and is now in hospital on life support.
